Frequently Asked Questions
I was mandated to complete several substance use counseling sessions; can I complete those through your services? Yes. I have worked with many clients that have been mandated to complete a finite number of sessions.
Do you perform pre/ post-DUI or court-ordered assessments & evaluations? Yes. I have done these in California and have thoroughly completed them for many clients who have had an out-of-state DUI.
Do you accept insurance? No. To have more information check out my fees by visiting my Fees page.
Am I required to drug test? No. Drug testing, unless mandated by court, is optional.
Do you accept Medi-Cal or Medicare? No. To have more information check out my fees and insurance policy by visiting my Fees page.
Will my insurance reimburse me for out-of-network services? Many of my clients do get reimbursed for out-of-network services. Some do not. I will not assure reimbursement and I don't take accountability for insurance claims or payments. I can provide you with a superbill for services.
Can you prescribe medications? No. Only Medical Doctors and psychiatrists can prescribe medication. I suggest all clients visit an M.D. to discuss finishing or diminishing substance use. If you would like a reference to a medically board-certified addiction M.D., I will give you with that information. I have listed several that are presented on my Resources page.
How effective is counseling by video or phone? Millions of "telehealth" appointments (including phone and video sessions) are utilized every year through a broad variety of mental health and medical services. Evidence is showing these services are equal or even better than face to face in-person services. Go to my page "Effectiveness" for more information.
I'm not sure my friend or loved one is ready for help, what should I do? Please call me to arrange a free 30 min phone consultation. We can discuss your options and deliver to you suggestions that will help you to engage your friend or loved one needing help.
What is your success rate? Providers or programs that delivers to you an precise success rate, is normally an important red flag. It is difficult to measure success rates as they will change from day-to-day. There are multiple factors that influence a client's success or lack thereof. There are many descriptions of what success is as it pertains to substance use. From my experience and studies done, is if the client desiring help wants to make positive adjustments in their life, and the relationship between the counselor and the client is good- there is a decent chance that positive changes will occur.
I am required to receive an alcohol or drug evaluation, or counseling sessions mandated by the court or a state agency, can you help me? Yes, in many situations. I need to examine the actual courts conditions or order before deciding if I can provide the service. All information is confidential.
Do you work with adolescents? No. I only work with adults.
